A century of excavation has given us bones, tools, pigments, and monuments – but not agreement.

Neanderthals may have practiced medicine and empathy, or the flowers were just bees. Homo naledi may have buried its dead with ritual, or the bodies simply fell into a cave. Göbekli Tepe may prove religion built civilization, or it’s still an unsolved riddle in stone.

The honest takeaway isn’t that science failed – it’s that ancient human behavior was messier, more inconsistent, and more surprising than any single tidy theory can capture.
