For a long time, dinosaur colors were basically guesswork. Artists defaulted to green, brown, or gray because that felt reasonably safe and “natural.” That started to change when scientists began studying microscopic structures in exceptionally preserved feathers, structures that can reflect light differently depending on their shape.
